BABY ROOM REVEAL

I'm so excited to finally share the baby room with you today! I've been working on this room for several months, on top of the boy's room (which you can see here if you missed it!), and I'm so happy with how it came together.

I wanted to create a really simple and peaceful nursery, and since already owned the gray rocker, the gray pouf, and the white and brown dresser from Foster's nursery, I went with gray and white as my color palette. Since there's very little color in the room, I wanted to add a lot of different textures and subtle patterns to keep the room visually interesting, so I chose this diamond patterned rug with a sheepskin rug layered over it, the water hyacinth basket, a white faux fur pillow (that's unfortunately no longer available), some neutral blankets, a mirror (which also makes this tiny room feel bigger), a big tropical plant (a pop of green makes a room come alive!), and of course the stripes on the ceiling.

I'd seen stripes on the ceiling once a long time ago on Pinterest and thought it was such a good way to add some pattern in a unique way. The only bad part is that no one wants to paint the ceiling, let alone measure and tape it all off and then paint. So when I heard about Walls Need Love and their Easy Stripes, I knew it was the perfect solution. They're vinyl strips that you can just stick on and cut down to size -- no measuring, no paint fumes (which is perfect for pregnant mamas), and not permanent so they're great for rental properties! I put these up by myself and although it took three or four stripes to get the hang of it, I got better and faster and had all of these up within a few hours. And I love how they really complete the room and add that unexpected but subtle pattern. They have different widths and they come in a ton of colors that you can see right here, but they also have tons of other decals including murals, maps, and more.

The only thing I wish the room had was a mobile over the crib. Since we have earthquakes here in California we didn't want to hang any picture frames over the crib, so that space still looks a little empty. That amazing handmade felt ram's head from Heart Felt Creations was a perfect addition to the little wall space, but I still think there needs to be something in the other wall above the crib, I just haven't found anything I've loved or had the time to make one myself. Maybe one day!

I linked to everything in the room below, but if I missed something leave a comment!

DIY FRIDAY: BOY'S ROOM RE-DESIGN

When we found out I was pregnant with San, we decided to rearrange the bedrooms. The boys each had their own rooms, but with the new arrangements they'd be together and the other room would become the nursery.

I teamed up with Wayfair for the redesign, and had a blast coming up with color schemes, choosing fabric and furniture, and then watching the whole room come together bit by bit. Building a bunk bed at eight months pregnant was not the highlight, but the rest was so fun. And I'm so excited to share it with you today!

The hardest part of the entire room for me was the comforters on the bed. We already had the rug from when it was Foster's room, and the bunkbed, chairs, and couch were easy to decide on, but I just couldn't find bedding that I loved. I searched through every store I could think of, with no luck, and finally decided that we could make them instead. My mom offered to help, so of course I jumped at that opportunity. But the hunt for good fabric proved to be just as hard as the the search for a ready made blanket. Finally I ran across this simple red-orange arrow print and instantly loved it. I knew I wanted a contrasting stripe on the back, but I couldn't find a nice wide-striped fabric anywhere. Then I happened to see this wide-stripe fabric on a duvet cover at IKEA, so I snagged two of those and my mom cut them up and used them as fabric. Plus we got striped pillowcases out of the deal! My aunt is a professional quilter and owns a long arm quilting machine, so we sent the quilts off to her to be quilted (with a simple large windowpane pattern), and then she sent them back to my mom who trimmed them down and added the binding around the edge.

I love, love, love how this room turned out, and the boys are so happy with their new space!

MERRICK AT HOME: NURSERY TOUR

When I was pregnant with Foster, we planned to have the boys share a room. We decorated our house in Utah accordingly, and then when we moved to California we did the same.

But about two months after he was born, we decided that them sharing a room was better fit for their older years, since they were just constantly keeping each other up at night. So at Christmas time, we rearranged the bedrooms a bit and put Fos in his own room.

About six months after the switch, I finally got around to painting the dresser, which was formerly a light oak color, and was Philip's before we got married. And then about six or eight months after that I bought frames for the gallery wall. And then eventually I hung a few things. A couple of months ago I finally tackled one corner, which I showed here. Then, after more than two years of being an almost completely empty room, we finally got a rocking chair and rug, and the room was almost complete. A few final touches last week, and the nursery is finally done. Hallelujah.

Now I'm so excited to share it with you -- I love how it turned out!

MERRICK AT HOME: MASTER BEDROOM UPDATE

When we moved into this house almost 2 1/2 years ago, we almost immediately got everything set up and in place. We're not ones to live out of boxes (especially my husband), so we spent the first month or two decorating and arranging like crazy. So for the last two years everything (except F's nursery) has been pretty complete. But you know how it goes...after a while you just get the itch to redecorate. So of course I started with our master bedroom. I didn't do anything super drastic (although Philip might disagree with you), but a few little updates made a big difference in the functionality of the bedroom and the overall appeal for me.

Our tiny closets hardly give us any space, so adding a dresser added a lot more storage. Plus it gives me a place to display a little bit of my jewelry. I also added floating shelves on the wall next to my side of the bed since there's no room for a table, but I needed some storage. I hated having a pile of books and my phone sitting on the floor next to me every day, so they solved that problem. I also added a few more pillows from Caitlin Wilson's gorgeous shop, a new bedspread and pillow shams (since our old ones were getting a little dingy) and a shower curtain in the bathroom to hide the ugly sliding shower doors.

Simple updates, but they make a huge difference for me. Now I'm excited to share it with you!
