TWO TRENDS TO TRY THIS SEASON

RED TOP  ||  SIMILAR JEANS  ||  SIMILAR HANDBAG  ||  NECKLACE  ||  ANKLE BOOTS

Does anyone else find it so funny how cyclical fashion is? I love seeing "new" trends pop up that are total blasts from the past.

Two huge trends this season are chokers and bell sleeves, both of which are recycled trends, but they're back this time in a fresh and modern way.

And that's the trick with these old/new trends -- choose modern versions and then style them with modern pieces, and you won't feel like you stepped out of an old decade. Nordstrom is always so up to date on what's trending, so they're one of my top go-to shopping spots since I know when I shop there I'll find pieces that are both on trend and modern.

I thought I would hate the choker trend, but the more I see, the more I'm loving it. I found a few fun ones at Nordstrom, including this bolo tie style choker and this double banded one. I've also seen thicker velvet ones, like this one, which are more of a statement and so chic. They're all fair game -- just stay away from the little plastic stretchy ones we all used to wear back in the day!

And bell sleeves -- we've been seeing so many ruffles and flutter details on tops this season, so bell sleeves fit right in and make sense. There are so many good ones out there, like this white boho one I just picked up.

How are you feeling about these trends coming back??

ON THE FRINGE

SIMILAR HERE, HERE, + HERE  ||  JEANS  ||  BAG  ||  SIMILAR LOAFERS HERE + HERE  ||  SUNGLASSES  ||  SIMILAR LEATHER JACKET

There's something about fringe that I just really love. It's a trend that has basically become a staple because it keeps coming around season after season. I love that it's wearable in winter on boots, scarves, and outerwear, and in summer on tanks, sandals, and bags. And it's an easy way to instantly add visual interest to an outfit. Some pieces can look a little costume-y, so make sure the cut or style of your top, bag, or shoes is modern, and the fringe adds to the piece, rather than overpowers it.

The fringe top I'm wearing above sold out a few months ago, but I found a few almost identical ones here and here, and I rounded up a few of my favorite fringe pieces for summer below. Fringe bags and sandals are probably the most versatile and easy to wear fringe items you can buy, like this super classic fringe bag, or this easy pair of sandals, but I do love a fringe lined top!

THREE SANDAL TRENDS FOR SPRING

OUTFIT 3: BUTTON DOWN  ||  JEANS  ||  PLATFORM SANDALS  c/o RACK ROOM SHOES (on sale for under $30!)  ||  CROSSBODY BAG

There are so many good trends this spring and today I've teamed up with Rack Room Shoes to share some of my favorite sandal trends for this season, and how to style them!

1. Fringe. Fringe is everywhere right now, and it's one of my favorite trends. I love the subtle boho vibe it adds to any outfit, and it's perfect for festival season that's going on right now. But to keep it a little less boho and a little more mom-friendly and chic, I paired these cute fringe sandals with a pair of skinny jeans, a pretty blouse, and a chic crossbody bag, but chose the top and bag in earthy tones to match the boho vibes of the sandals.

2. Gladiators. I love gladiator sandals, but the knee high ones can be tricky to style since they're such a dramatic shoe. These little ankle ones are a great alternative because they're a good statement sandal without being as bold as a knee-high pair. The little wedge makes them easy to dress up or dress down, and they're perfect with a simple white spring dress like this linen shirtdress.

3. Platforms. I'm not usually a huge fan of platform shoes, but as soon as I saw these ones I instantly fell in love. They're simple and neutral, but the detailing on the sole is so pretty and adds a little pop of pattern to your outfit. Plus, my wedge-hating husband complimented them after I wore them for date night, so that makes me love them even more. I styled them with a simple button down and skinny jeans for spring to add a touch of sophistication to balance out the youthful funkiness of the shoes.

Which style are you trying this spring??

4 EASY WAYS TO ADD BOHO TO YOUR LOOK

photos by jana laurene

One of my favorite looks that I see people wearing all the time is bohemian. But for some reason it's always been a style that for me seems a little harder to pull off. Over time though, I've realized that the problem lies in me trying to do an entirely boho outfit, rather than just incorporating it into my personal style (which isn't boho at all). And that's the key with any style -- don't force yourself to wear a completely different style that doesn't work for you...just add bits and pieces so it's not overpowering to the rest of your style!

I recently picked up this gorgeous swing top and fringe poncho from Nordstrom Free People, both of which are very boho, and wanted to figure out how to style them in a way that still reflected my personal style, so I tested out my theory in two outfits, one with each of these pieces, and love how they turned out.

So today let's talk Bohemian. Here's 4 easy ways to incorporate boho into your look, without it overwhelming your style!

1. Add a flowy garment. Loose and flowy maxi skirts and dresses, ponchos, swing tops with loose, flowy sleeves -- they're all very boho. To incorporate it into your style, pick one of these styles and add it to the rest of your style. I paired a beautiful flowy swing top with skinny, distressed jeans and strappy ankle boots for a good mix of modern and boho. If you choose a boho maxi dress, pair it with modern jewelry and shoes. Or if you try a poncho, add a feminine bag and heels to keep the outfit more your style.

2. Try earthy colors. I definitely gravitate toward bright and fresh colors, but boho is all about earthy tones. Since I don't want to steer too far from my personal style, I choose pieces that had those earthy undertones, but still were vibrant and colorful. Even the navy poncho has some beautiful, bright embroidery that keeps it fresh and modern.

3. Don't forget a hat! Fedoras and floppy hats are both very boho, and instantly add a bohemian vibe to your look. This is also such an easy way to add a bit of boho without overpowering the rest of your style. But I personally like to add them to an outfit with an already slightly boho vibe so the hat doesn't seem out of place.

4. Add some fringe. Fringe is huge this year, and definitely very bohemian. Add a little fringe bag, a fringe kimono or poncho, or a fringe lined blouse and your outfit will get a taste of boho without overwhelming the outfit. Just make sure you pair it with other pieces that fit your personal style!

So do you think you'll try out the boho trend??
