LITTLE BLACK BOOTS

Since last year, I've been on the hunt for a little black ankle boot. I owned one or two pairs, but I almost never wore them because they were uncomfortable or didn't work with any of my clothes. You know, one of those pairs that looks good sitting there, but once you put it it just never looks good with anything. I own entirely too many tan and brown ankle boots, but I could just never find a black pair that I really loved.

So I've been trying a few pairs this year to find ones that fit my lifestyle, look good dressed up or dressed down, work for all weather (since apparently we're supposed to get a ton of rain this winter), and look good on my feet. In my search, I stumbled across this pair by Clarks. I already own one pair of Clarks (I wore them in my instagram post last night right here) so I knew how comfortable this brand was, and they sell them at Zappos, which by now you should know that I absolutely love based on their fast and free shipping and 365 day returns (a mom's best friend).

Most of my ankle boots are very similar to each other -- almond toe, stacked wooden heel, low cut -- so I decided to try something different with this pair and I fell in love with them the moment they arrived. They checked off everything in my above laundry list of black ankle boot requirements. I styled them with a beautiful fringe kimono cardigan and black floppy hat, but they'll also look great with distressed skinny jeans, knee-length dresses, plaid button ups, and so much more.

KIMONO LOVE

Just in the last few weeks I've become obsessed with kimonos. We've hit June gloom here in SoCal, so with the overcast days, a light cardigan just perfect. Girl Charlee sent me this fun tie-dye fabric, and although I had plans to make something else with it, I suddenly had the idea to make a kimono with it and it couldn't have turned out more perfectly. The best part is that this project took a total of 30 minutes to make because it's just a few cuts and a few seams -- so easy! Make one, make ten, make one for all your friends!

TRAVEL STYLE

On Saturday night I got home from Alt Summit. The moment I got off the plane I went into recovery mode since I'd been going, going, going for five days straight. I went from packing and preparing for my five day absence (which is no small feat), to becoming a sponge during all the classes and soaking up every bit of advice and knowledge I could, to becoming a sales person while introducing myself to everyone I met and selling my brand to potential partners, to a party animal til all hours of the night. My energy level never seemed to wane. But the moment I got home I crashed from the high -- I could feel a cold coming on and all I wanted to do is sleep (and I did). 

So now that my temporary hibernation is over, it's time to share my outfits from the last week, which will include tutorials for all my handmade clothing. Get excited!

This was my travel day on the way to Salt Lake City. I had planned to change once we got to the hotel, but checking in and registering for the conference put us a little behind so I ended up wearing it all afternoon through the classes and up until dinner. It turned out to be perfect because I was basically wearing a blanket around all day, which was much less awkward than actually wearing a blanket around, but with all the same benefits. That's my kind of travel style.
